How we evaluate

We do our own research and earn commission on some links. Reviews are not for sale.

How we evaluate pet products, vet plans, and prices

Plain version: we do not pretend to lab-test everything in a warehouse. We read the published data, price the real-world costs, score against a fixed rubric, and tell you what we would choose. Here is exactly how, so you can judge the work yourself.

What we actually do

For every product or service, we compare the things you can verify: labels, ingredient panels, active compounds and dosing, plan terms, coverage, and price. Every guide is built the same way: from published data and owner-reported results at scale, not from a lab we do not have.

Our sources

We work from named, datable sources, not vibes:

Manufacturer labels and spec sheets
Active ingredients, dosing, claimed coverage
FDA and veterinary guidance
Safety flags, approved uses, known risks
Published chain pricing and plan documents
What the plan actually covers and what it locks you into
Retailer prices, captured with a date
Every price we show carries an as-of date
Owner-reported results at scale
Patterns across many owners, not one anecdote

How we score

Each category has a fixed rubric, and we apply the same criteria to every product in a comparison. A score reflects published terms and measured trade-offs, not how we feel about a brand. For corporate vet chains, the rubric is price transparency, plan lock-in terms, whether you see the same vet, and after-hours access. You can see those scores on the Vet Care hub.

How we price

Prices change faster than any page can keep up, so we are careful about how we show them. We never display a price next to an Amazon link, because Amazon's terms forbid stale prices and a number we posted last week is not the number you will pay today. We link out for the live price instead. For other retailers we may show a price with the date we checked it. The full pricing method for our cost tools is on how we price ->.

Why we say evaluate, not test

Our guides are evaluations built from published data and aggregated owner results, not in-clinic lab trials. We do not dress up desk research as a field trial. Every price and score traces back to a source you can check.

How we make money, and what it does not change

GetPetPros earns commission on some links. That is how the site stays free. It never changes a score, a ranking, or which product we recommend, and the disclosure bar sits at the top of every page so you never have to wonder. If a product is the right pick but pays us nothing, it still gets the pick.
